ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT – The town’s road improvement project on Peter Messina Road has been completed, and the town is now getting bids on a stripping project for numerous roads. “Once we get the prices, we’ll see if we have to prioritize and do the project in phases,” said Mayor Toups.

CULVERTS ON FIRST STREET – The town also recently completed the installation of culverts on First Street. This project was done with a $25,000 state grant and will help drain rain water from the railroad track and First Street.

SEWER GRANT – The town has applied for a grant for sewer improvements at Addis Place Subdivision.

MEETING WITH RAILROAD – Mayor Toups said town officials met with Union Pacific Railroad representatives in April to address issues of wait times at tracks, crossings conditions, and maintenance issues throughout the town. Officials will continue to monitor progress on these issues.

STUDY OF RED LIGHTS ON LA. HWY. 1 – Mayor Toups said the town is also in communications with the La. Department of Transportation and Development (LDOTD) on the red lights through town. LDOTD is conducting a traffic survey of La. Hwy. 1 to determine ways to improve traffic flow. “We are waiting to hear what the recommendations will be from LDOTD,” he said.

Recycling bins changed out – Recycling bins were replaced with recycling carts in Addis in March. If you did not receive a recycling cart and would like to receive one, call 336-2406. The parish has a contract with Allied Waste to collect trash and recyclables in Addis.

Road Striping– Town officials have addressed some road striping in Town. Railroad Crossings emblems throughout town have been re-applied as well as striping and reflectors on Peter Messina Road and striping on the entrance to Sugar Mill Parkway up to the YMCA.
