Speical Meeting: August 27, 2005

TOWN OF ADDIS MINUTES

Mayor Bourgeois called a special, emergency meeting of the Mayor and Town Council to be held at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2005 at the Addis Municipal Center. The meeting was called to discuss all phases and plans for the impending Hurricane Katrina, as per agenda attached.

Roll Call: Present: Mayor Bourgeois; Councilmen Cazes; Gauthreaux; Landry; Parrish; Toups.
Absent: None

A lengthy discussion was held on the preparations and needs involved during an emergency situation such as a Hurricane.

Councilman Landry reviewed plans made during a meeting held in Port Allen this morning for the Parish and surrounding areas. Mr. Cope with Entergy advised that the Company does not expect too many problems in West Baton Rouge Parish.

Police: A motion was made by Councilman Cazes, 2nd by Councilman Landry to authorize the Police Chief to expend whatever overtime it takes to provide the necessary security during the hurricane emergency, including all part-time, paid officers for time over and above their normal 50 hours a month, at their regular rate of pay. The motion was adopted.

Maintenance: A motion was made by Councilman Toups, 2nd by Councilman Parrish to authorize John to expend funds necessary to work his personnel to whatever extent is necessary to maintain the streets and drainage. The motion was adopted.

A motion was made by Councilman Gauthreaux, 2nd by Councilman Toups to authorize John to expend funds to rent generators, chain saws, pumps and other necessary equipment; engage a tree service; and arrange for at home grinder electrical service. The motion was adopted.

Sewer: A motion was made by Councilman Cazes, 2nd by Parrish to expend funds for any overtime necessary and/or rental of equipment necessary to maintain the sanitary sewer service. The motion was adopted.

General Information: Mayor Bourgeois advised that the VFW will be open for a shelter. The Red Cross will service the shelter and the National Guard will be called to help with security. The Town’s police department will randomly check the shelter. Chief Anderson advised that the Sheriff’s office will also furnish security.

All computers will be shut off. The Town Hall office will be open for informational purposes.

Fire Meeting: A motion was made by Councilman Gauthreaux, 2nd by Councilman Cazes to temporarily adjourn the meeting in order to hold the special meeting for Fire Sub-District #1 of WBR. The motion was adopted.

The meeting was reconvened on a motion by Councilman Gauthreaux, 2nd by Councilman Cazes and adopted.

Volunteers were requested to help man the shelter at the VFW.

The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Councilman Gauthreaux, 2nd by Councilman Cazes and adopted.
