Special Meeting: July 27, 2005

TOWN OF ADDIS MINUTES

A special meeting of the Mayor and Town Council for the Town of Addis was called by Mayor Bourgeois and held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27th at the Addis Municipal Center. Mayor Bourgeois advised that the meeting was called to (1) discuss bids for the police department renovations (2) discuss an S.R.O. for Brusly School (3) discuss weight of concrete trucks in town (4) Planning & Zoning training (7) Sewer-lift station (8) Credit Card Use by the Fire Sub-District (9) LMA convention (10) National League of Cities and (11) Any other business which is properly presented.

Roll Call: Present: Mayor Bourgeois; Councilmen Cazes; Gauthreaux; Landry; Parrish; Toups.
Absent: None

Concrete Trucks: Following a discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Landry, 2nd by Councilman Gauthreaux to allow 4-axle concrete trucks to carry 7 cubic yards of concrete on the town’s street, providing the lift axle is engaged; further, 3-axle trucks will remain at the 5-cubic yards of concrete. The motion was adopted.
A discussion was held on having all pumping done on off-road.

Police Dept Renovations: A motion was made by Councilman Landry, 2nd by Councilman Cazes to concur with the recommendation of Tommie Cockfield, Architect, and accept the low bid of Williams Construction, in the amount of $192,000.00, for the renovations to the Police Department. The motion was adopted.

School S.R.O. Following a discussion, it was decided that Mr. David Carona, Superintendent of Parish Schools, would be invited to the August meeting to make a presentation on the S.R.O.

Planning & Zoning Training: Mayor Bourgeois advised that a 2-hour training for Planning & Zoning Commissioners and Council Members will be held, in the Chambers, at 6:00 p.m. on August 9th. Members from Brusly and the Parish will be invited. Mr. Kevin Durbin has been asked to put together a program for the class.
A motion was made by Councilman Cazes, 2nd by Councilman Toups to expend approximately $100.00 for refreshments for the class. The motion was adopted.

Sewer-Lift Station: Mayor Bourgeois advised that the location of the wet well on the sewer project has been changed to the River Road due to the fact that an agreement could not be reached with all family members on the original site.

Credit Card-Fire Sub-District: A motion was made by Councilman Gauthreaux, 2nd by Councilman Cazes to allow the Fire Sub-District the use of the Town’s credit card to purchase tires for the old LaFrance fire truck, if needed. The motion was adopted.

LMA Convention: A motion was made by Councilman Landry, 2nd by Councilman Cazes to expend money to cover expenses for the LMA convention. The motion was adopted.
Mayor Bourgeois advised that the auditor reminded him that no spouse expenses could be paid by the Town.

National League of Cities: It was decided that Councilman Harry Landry and his wife, Dienna, and Mayor Bourgeois and his wife, Carolyn would attend the N.L.C. convention in December.

Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m. on a motion by Councilman Toups, 2nd by Councilman Gauthreaux and adopted.
