Special Meeting: September 15, 2004

TOWN OF ADDIS MINUTES

A special meeting of the Mayor and Town Council for the Town of Addis was held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at the Addis Municipal Center. Mayor Bourgeois called the special, emergency meeting to discuss plans for Hurricane Ivan.

Roll Call: Present: Mayor Bourgeois; Councilmen Cazes; Gauthreaux; H. Landry; J. Landry; Parrish.
Absent: None

Mayor Bourgeois advised that he and Mayor Pro Tempore H. Landry attended a meeting in Port Allen with Emergency Preparedness where plans for the Parish were addressed. An update on the Hurricane was given. The VFW Hall was opened as a shelter, as was the Community Center in Port Allen.

Mayor Bourgeois further advised that a State of Emergency was declared in the lower portion of the State, however, no State of Emergency has been declared in the Parish. The schools in the Parish will be closed Thursday, to reopen on Friday. There will be no garbage pickup on Thursday. The Town Hall office will be open with personnel to “man” the phones.

A motion was made by Councilman Gauthreaux, 2nd by Councilman Cazes to authorize overtime for an additional officer to work for a 24-hour period during the Hurricane. The motion was adopted.

A motion was made by Councilman Cazes, 2nd by Councilman H. Landry to authorize the Fire Chief to spend money needed to operate the Fire Department for the next 24 hour period. The motion was adopted.

A motion was made by Councilman H. Landry, 2nd by Councilman Gauthreaux to authorize John Artigue to expend funds necessary to operate the sewer system and run his maintenance crew during the Hurricane emergency. The motion was adopted.

A motion was made by Councilman Parrish, 2nd by Councilman Cazes to authorize John Artigue to spend funds necessary for cleanup after the Hurricane. The motion was adopted.

A motion was made by Councilman H. Landry, 2nd by Councilman J. Landry to authorize John Artigue to obtain a vacuum truck, if needed, to operate the sewer system. The motion was adopted.

A motion was made by Councilman J. Landry, 2nd by Councilman Gauthreaux to allow Sandra Broussard to leave work to man the VFW Hall shelter, without loss of pay. The motion was adopted.

Mr. Berthelot, Parish President, arrived and advised that the Parish is ready for the Hurricane. He further advised that several spots have been chosen to use as temporary dumps, if needed. He also advised that travel trailers, etc. can be parked at Myhand Park during the emergency.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:25 p.m. on a motion by Councilman Gauthreaux, 2nd by Councilman Parrish and adopted.
