Regular Meeting: July 2, 2003

TOWN OF ADDIS MINUTES

The regular meeting of the Mayor and Town Council for the Town of Addis was held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at the Addis Municipal Center. The Mayor led the Pledge to the Flag and asked for a moment of silence in memory of members of the Fitzgerald Family who were killed in a plane crash in 1982, and Betty Lou Delapasse who died recently.

Roll Call: Present: Mayor Bourgeois; Councilmen Cazes; Gauthreaux; H. Landry; J. Landry; Parrish.
Absent: None

The minutes of the regular meeting of June 4th were approved, as corrected, on a motion by Councilman Cazes, 2nd byCouncilman H. Landry and adopted.

Mayor Bourgeois then introduced Mrs. Karen St. Germaine who is running for representative. Mrs. St. Germaine spoke on behalf of her candidacy.

A motion was made by Councilman Gauthreaux, 2nd by Councilman Cazes to temporarily adjourn the meeting in order to allow Kathleen Beard, CPA, to present the 2002 audit for Fire Sub-District #1 of West Baton Rouge. The motion was adopted.

Following a presentation of the 2002 Fire Sub-District #1 audit, the Town meeting was reconvened on a motion by Councilman Parrish, 2nd by Councilman J. Landry and adopted.

Parish Council: Mr. Berthelot advised that the sewer contract is being looked at now. A substantial increase is expected in garbage pickup due to an increase in tipping fees. He further advised that the parish is digging out the ditch along the Highway on the south end of town. Dirt is being dumped on the ballpark for use as fill.
Mayor Bourgeois thanked Mr. Berthelot for his help in getting the Parish to reallocate the sales tax due to the Town’s expansion.

Sewer Report: The sewer report, given by Larry Broussard, included 24 equipment failures; and 3 leaks. One tank lid was replaced; and the capacitors were replaced in both motors in the Addis Place pump station.
Oscar reported on the wall supporting the “scum sucker”, which has developed a crack. The contractor has been contacted.
A motion was made by Councilman H. Landry, 2nd by Councilman Gauthreaux to pursue a grant under the LCDBG 2004-05 program for sewer improvements. The motion was adopted.

Police Report: The police report, given by Chief Anderson, included 148 traffic citations issued; 1 vehicle accident worked; 15 misdemeanor arrests; one felony arrest; and 200 complaints answered. Arrests were: 3 narcotics; 1 child endangerment; 4 DWI’S; 3 traffic; 3 disturbing the peace; 1 theft; and 1 forgery felony arrest.
