Regular Meeting: August 28, 2008
TOWN OF ADDIS MINUTES
A special, emergency meeting of the Mayor and Town Council was called by Mayor Bourgeois and held at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2008. Mayor Bourgeois advised that the meeting was called to discuss preparations concerning Hurrican Gustav.
Roll Call: Present: Mayor Bourgeois; Councilmen Cazes; Landry; Gauthreaux; Toups.
Absent: Councilman Parrish.
Others present: Fire Chief Melancon; Charles Ardeneaux; Larry Broussard; John Artigue; Jason Langlois, David Jones, Attorney Larpenteur, Clerk Dana Strauss.
Minutes: The minutes of the August 6th regular meeting were dispensed with on a motion by Councilman Landry, 2nd by Councilman Cazes and adopted.
Purposes of meeting: Police/Sewer/Maintenance: Ass't Chief Jones and John Artigue elaborated on the Parish meeting concerning the hurricane. All parish personnel will be taken off the streets when the winds reach 50 mph. The E.O.C. office will be open on Sunday, August 31. Shelters from the Parish will be as a last resort and, hopefully, will be used only for local residents. In the event shelters are necessary, the Addis VFW will be the last to close. St. Charles and St. John parishes will stay at the Port Allen High School. Brusly High School will be designated for police officials.
Police: A motion was made by Councilman Gauthreaux, 2nd by Councilman Toups to authorize the police department to expend funds necessary to maintain order and protect the citizens of the Town of Addis in the event the hurricane hits. The motion was adopted.
Maintenance: A motion was made by Councilman Gauthreaux, 2nd by Councilman Landry to authorize John Artigue to expend funds necessary to efficiently operate the maintenance department during the duration of the hurricane. The motion was adopted.
Sewer: A motion was made by Councilman Gauthreaux, 2nd by Councilman Landry to authorize the sewer department to expend those funds necessary to maintain the efficient operation of the sewer system in town during the hurricane. The motion was adopted.
It was emphasized that everyone should keep all receipts for funds expended during the emergency.
Toby Berthelot volunteered 8 generators for the Town's use on the sewer system during the storm.
Bills: A motion to pay bills, prior to the regular meeting, was made by Councilman Landry, 2nd by Councilman Gauthreaux and adopted.
Regular Meeting: A decision will be made later on the status of the regular meeting which is scheduled for Wednesday, September 3rd.
Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 3:55 p.m. on a motion by Councilman Gauthreaux, 2nd by Councilman Landry and adopted.
